Sympathetic hotel staff, Skype's VoIP service, and a computer projector helped an Australian couple share their marriage vows with friends and family in the UK when they were stranded in Dubai by the volcanic ash clouds stopping air traffic from reaching much of Europe.
Sean Murtagh told the British Press Association that hotel staff had spared no effort to create a makeshift ceremony. "It's spellbinding the amount they have done for us. It's been an incredible day. We were never going to forget it anyway but we certainly won't forget it now," Murtagh said.
Murtagh - who is originally from West London - and new wife Natalie were officially married in a civil ceremony in Brisbane several weeks before the incident, but had planned on holding another ceremony with Murtagh's family and friends in the UK, the Press Association reported.
The news was a rare silver lining to the ash cloud, as travelers remained stranded across Europe and the Royal Navy was pressed into service to pick up British business travelers and tourists from France and Spain.
