Above par: New Tiger Woods video game a hit during first week
April 13, 2011

The latest Tiger Woods PGA Tour installment recorded the best opening week sales of any game in the series.Officials from Electronic Arts recently announced that the latest installment of the company's Tiger Woods PGA Tour series posted the best opening sales numbers among all of the franchise's games.

According to officials, nearly 225,000 copies were sold in the week following the March 29 release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters.

The new game, which was heavily promoted during the recent Masters tournament, allows gamers to travel around Augusta National, where the annual tournament is held every April. Those hooked up to HDTVs, high-tech computers and HDMI projectors are presented with graphics that create realistic feels for such well-known landscapes as Amen Corner and the famed 18th green.

The sales figures for the new game are 17 percent higher than those for the previous best-selling installment, PGA Tour 08, which was released in 2007.

"We expected fans to be excited about the Masters and for sales to be up significantly," said EA Sports president Peter Moore. "We're pleased that they are."

Possibly adding to the game's interest was Wood's recent run at the Masters, where he posted his best final round score to finish fourth, four shots behind the winner.
