Shift 2 Unleashed, a new racing game from Slightly Mad Studios, offers gamers the realistic opportunity to take a virtual wheel and hit the open road.
The game, which hit stores at the end of March, features high-level graphics and state-of-the-art handling elements, including acceleration, cornering and passing. While the Gran Turismo and Need for Speed series have led the market for racing-driven video games in the past, Shift 2 presents serious competition in terms of reality and gameplay.
Those gamers hooked up to HDTVs, high-tech computers and HDMI projectors are able to experience lifelike handling as they compete in the game's various circuits. Car selection is vast as well, stretching from Lamborghinis to more common, consumer vehicles.
While the game does promote racing, the reality of speed can be deceptive. The handling skills are just as important as maintaining a reasonable pace, as exceeding a car's comfort zone in terms of speed will lead to mishandling and subsequent crashes.
The game is currently available for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 systems.
