To support the release of its latest sequel, Cars 2 - set to hit theatres in June - Pixar has partnered with Avalanche Studios to develop a companion video game starring Lightning McQueen and the gang, called Cars 2: The Video Game.
Available on XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and DS, as well as Macs and PCs, the game will follow similar plot to the movie, where the cars are acting as spies. The group will infiltrate the secretive Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage.
Gamers can choose to play as 20 different cars and, according to a statement from the studio, will "participate in simulated hazardous missions using high-tech gadgets to evade and slow down adversaries."
For fans of the movies, hooking their system up to an HDTV, high-tech computer or HDMI projector will offer the best display to act out their favorite Lightning McQueen, Luigi or Chick Hicks moves.
The game will also offer players the ability to connect the World of Cars Online, a free-to-play browser game set in the Cars universe. Gamers can gain rewards in the video game and then use them to unlock other items in the browser game.
Cars 2: The Video Game will hit stores in close proximity to the movie’s release. The original Cars installment was a major box-office success, generating more than $460 million in gross revenue.
