2K Games recently announced it will release the sequel to its 2007 comic book shooter the Darkness later this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
According to 2K Games, the Darkness II is being developed by Digital Extremes, the team that co-developed the BioShock and Unreal Tournament series and the PC version of Homefront.
The Darkness video games are based on a comic book by the same name from Top Cow. According to 2K, the Darkness II will once again follow the story of Jackie Estacado, a super-powered anti-hero who has ascended to power as the Don of the Franchetti crime family.
The original Darkness installment, developed by Starbreeze Studios, was lauded for its highly stylized, supernatural gunplay and vivid, colorful graphics. Gamers who want to get the most out of the gameplay can run their console in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector.
Though not as celebrated as some more famous titles, the Darkness was a favorite among critics and fans alike. In 2007, IGN awarded the game a "Good" 7.7-out-of-10 rating.
