Russian stacking dolls have been a favorite of children for years; however, the seemingly innocent toy is getting a makeover with a new video game release from THQ and Double Fine Productions.
The developers have collaborated on a new game called Stacking, which will follow the character Charlie Blackmore, the world's smallest Russian stacking doll, as he embarks on a mission to save his family from an evil baron enslaving them.
The third-person adventure game has already received rave reviews for its ingenuity and terrific graphics.
"Stacking looks and plays unlike any other downloadable game, and Double Fine’s unique approach to the puzzle-game genre has been executed brilliantly," said Martin Good, THQ’s executive vice president of kids, family and casual games. "Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy finding creative solutions to the huge array of challenges in a game filled with the vivid imagination of [Double Fine Productions head] Tim Schafer, [project leader] Lee Petty and Double Fine."
Gamers can attempt to complete each stacking-doll challenge while taking in the game's beautiful graphics, best noticed an HDTV, a high-tech computer or an HDMI projector.
The game is now available on XBox Live Arcade as well as the PlayStation Network. A similar doll-based franchise, LittleBigPlanet, has become a worldwide hit, selling more than 5 million copies of the first installment.
