Capitalizing on his popularity, historic Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps has lent his name to an upcoming video game that one expert has dubbed "one of the most realistic and intense sports simulation video games ever," 505 Games reports.
Swim-centric video game releases have been infrequent, though the draw of Michael Phelps might serve as a boost for sales. The game will be released on Xbox 360, taking advantage of the system's Kinect camera, which will measure player movements and then translate them into swimming strokes, dives, turns and finishes. The game currently has a June 2011 release date.
For fans of Phelps, or swimming enthusiasts, this new game promises to offer incredible role-playing and graphics, perfect for those attaching their system to an HDTV, LED screen or HDMI projector.
In all, Phelps has 16 Olympic medals and broke the world record for most golds won when he took home eight during 2008's Summer Games in Beijing. Mark Spitz previously held the record with seven during the games in Munich in 1972.
