Gamers are apparently pleased with the recent rebranding of Disney's mascot, as the Nintendo Wii-exclusive Epic Mickey reportedly sold 1.3 million units in December, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Disney took a gamble when it decided to cast the iconic Mickey Mouse in a world notably darker than any he's ever been seen in before. However, based on figures from the NPD Group, the venture has paid off, as the game showed it can compete with other best-selling titles, including Call of Duty: Black Ops and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
Released on November 30, Epic Mickey is an action-adventure platform, which introduces a devious side to Mickey Mouse. Armed with magic paint brush, Mickey is able to create and erase objects from the material world to complete his tasks.
The game features a world rich in color and unique environments. The gameplay can be enhanced by connecting the Wii to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI gaming projector to display video in bright, pristine quality.
After a successful holiday season, rumors have surfaced that Epic Mickey will move to other gaming consoles as well. According to TGDaily, Sony is also looking to release Epic Mickey for the PlayStation 3.
