Coming in just south of 5 million copies sold, the latest expansion of the wildly popular World of Warcraft series has broken the record for one-month PC-game sales, game developer Blizzard recently announced.
According to Blizzard, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has sold more than 4.7 million copies since its release on December 7, making it the fastest-selling game ever. The record was previously held by Cataclysm's predecessor Wrath of the Lich King.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm once again takes place in Azeroth, where there is an ongoing battle between the Alliance and the Horde. The plot centers on the return of Deathwing the Destroyer, an evil dragon looking to set the world aflame. It also features two new playable races - the goblins with the Horde and the worgen with the Alliance.
Gamers who want to get the most out of their epic journey can run their PC in conjunction with an LED monitor, HD-TV or
DLP projector to display the adventure in massive, pristine quality.
With 12 million subscribers, few games have enjoyed the fandom of the World of Warcraft series. According to Blizzard, Cataclysm sold 3.3 million copies in its first day.
