After 15 years and more than 10 video game appearances, Lara Croft is getting a facelift and a new backstory in the upcoming franchise reboot simply titled Tomb Raider.
According to a recent press release by publisher Square Enix, Tomb Raider will rewind the clocks, taking Lara Croft back to her first adventure, when she was still a young and inexperienced woman who did not yet know what it takes to stay alive.
"Forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider. We are exploring things that have never been done before in this game," said Darrell Gallaher, studio head of Crystal Dynamics, which is developing the game. "This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other."
According to the game's official website, Tomb Raider will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Gamers who want to get the most out of the action-adventure exploration can connect their console to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector for a high-quality display.
Lara Croft's last journey to the home console was Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, released in August. The game came out to favorable reviews and earned an Editor's Choice award on IGN.com.
