MTV Games and Truth, a nationwide smoking prevention group, recently announced they are teaming up for an anti-smoking dance contest built around the upcoming Dance Central video game.
The campaign will consist of a “Killer Routine” online dance contest, online outreach and a six-city grassroots tour, during which gamers will be able to get a firsthand look at the new Dance Central video game for the Xbox 360, as well as discuss tobacco use.
Dance Central is a control-free, body-tracking dance video game available exclusively for Kinect for the Xbox 360. Developed by Harmonix, the game features over 90 dance routines created by professional choreographers, and includes dance beats from classic and contemporary artists, such as Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Kool & the Gang and Technotronic.
Microsoft’s Kinect for the Xbox 360 allows gamers to control on-screen actions with their body movements rather than a controller. Users who connect their system to a high-definition television, LED monitor or HDMI projector will be able to see themselves groove in crisp, high-quality display.
Truth’s primary audience is young people between the ages of 12 and 17 who are most likely to engage in rebellious behavior, such as smoking, according to a press release. Over the past decade, the campaign has created dozens of online games and contests to entertain and educate teens about tobacco use.
