Video game maker Sega recently announced Sonic the Hedgehog will soon appear in his own high-definition game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii, as well as devices using Apple’s iOS operating system.
The game is a sequel to previous Sonic installments, picking up after 1994’s Sonic & Knuckles platformer. However, according to Sega, the game marks the beginning of a new story arc.
Sega’s iconic blue speedster has appeared in several 3D adventure games since Sonic & Knuckles and made numerous cameos in other franchises, including Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers Melee as a playable character. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 marks Sonic’s return to the 2D, side-scrolling platform that first drew loyal fans into the game.
Sonic 4 offers sublime 2D gameplay through stunning HD environments. Sonic fans old and new who want to get the best visuals of the lighting-fast, ring-collecting action/adventure game can connect their console to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI gaming projector.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is currently available on iOS devices through the Apple Appstore. It will be available to download from WiiWare, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade on October 11, 12 and 13, respectively.
