Last week, Sega announced that the development of the latest installment of its staple game, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, has been delayed, Gamasutra reports.
The game supposedly returns to the series' roots, functioning as a 2D side-scrolling game, much like the initial installments. Gamers with HDTVs, high-definition computers or HDMI projectors shouldn't worry though - the graphics will still inspire heightened gameplay and Sega claims the delay is to ensure it delivers the best Sonic experience possible.
"The additional time will allow the development team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands," claims a post on Sega Europe's website.
The new installment was announced in February and will be part of an ongoing, episodic adventure, claims Ken Balough, an associate brand manager at Sega, GamaSutra relays.
The original Sonic game was released for the Sega console in 1991, while the last, Sonic and Knuckles, debuted in 1994. The new installment will be available for download on Xbox Live, the Playstation Network and WiiWare when available.
