The trend of physical video gaming that took off with the launch of Nintendo's Wii has continued, and the recently demonstrated EA Sports Active 2.0, which will be available for both the Wii and PlayStation 3 later this year, looks set to continue the trend, according to gaming news site Kotaku.
At first glance, Kotaku says, the game looks like Wii Fit; a physically demanding game that benefits from the use of large-scale displays like wall-mounted monitors, LCD TVs, or HDMI projectors.
Kotaku reports that the new game will have a system of surprising challenges similar to that of the popular WarioWare series of mobile games, in which players are suddenly asked to perform unfamiliar or unintuitive tasks on a timer. "One moment [game designer Tom Singleton] was jumping to block virtual soccer balls from going into a net; then he was pedaling and jumping in a simulation of jumping a mountain-bike off a hill; then he was running around a basketball court; then he was doing something called 'fire-feet' as fast as he could," according to Kotaku.
Sony recently debuted a motion-capture controller similar to that of the Wii, which received mixed reviews from video game pundits.
