A New Jersey superintendent wants funding for new classroom technology. The Millburn School District in New Jersey hopes to receive nearly $2 million in funding to upgrade its technology infrastructure, according to a recent Millburn-ShortHills Patch report.

The news provider indicated that superintendent James Crisfield pitched the funding at a Board of Education meeting on January 23.

"Our network isn't even close to providing our students with what they need to acquire and hone 21st-century skills," said one of Crisfield's PowerPoint slides, according to the Patch report.

The superintendent also noted that the district's network constantly crashes, which hinders the use of new technology among students and teachers.

Schools looking for ways to upgrade their classroom infrastructure have a number of effective solutions at their disposal. For example, a tablet computer, an interactive whiteboard or a DLP projector can help districts bridge the gap with new technology.

Under the $1.9 million initiative, Crisfield said $580,000 would be allocated for improving the district's network, while $85,000 will be used to upgrade the bandwidth. According to the Patch report, the other funding will go toward replacing 20 percent of the schools' equipment each year.
