Boston College will provide the Newton Public School system with $300,000 over the next three years to upgrade its technology infrastructure, the Boston Globe recently reported.
According to Newton officials, the funding will allow the district to purchase more than 80 laptops and other classroom technology, including flat-screen televisions and media carts, the Globe reported.
Schools currently have many ways to educate their students with the latest technology. Teachers can use a tablet computer, an interactive whiteboard or a classroom projector, for example, to conduct their lesson plans and tap into the potential of their students.
"BC, with its Newton campus, already has several links to the city's public schools," said the Globe report. "BC graduates teach in the local schools and this year nearly 110 undergraduates and graduates will get their student-teaching experience in Newton schools."
The need for a technology upgrade comes at a perfect time for Newton Public Schools. According to Countryside Elementary School principal Emily Ostrower, some of the laptops used by students are actually older than the children themselves, the Globe reported.
