State funding helping South Carolina students learn with new classroom technology

Students in Marion School District 7 in South Carolina are learning through new technology such as iPads after schools received a total of $186,000 in additional funding, according to a recent SCNow report.
The grant was given to the district at the beginning of the 2011 school year as part of the Enhancing Education Through Technology initiative from the South Carolina Department of Education. With the new funding, Britton’s Neck Elementary School purchased two new desktop computers and nearly 50 iPads, according to the news provider.
Other classroom technology can be effective for helping children reach their potential. Devices such as a document camera, an interactive whiteboard or an
DLP projector offer teachers opportunities to present their curriculum in new and engaging ways.
Marion School District 7 technology coach Cindy Floyd-Jones indicated that children are being allowed to choose their own education applications for the Apple devices, according to the SCNow report.
"The children take to the iPads and the new technology right away," Floyd-Jones told the news provider. "They're not afraid of it, they learn quickly with it and actually they sometime figure out the apps before we do."
