Leesburg Patch recently reported that the Loundon County Public Schools in Virginia passed a vote on November 15 to equip all of its students and staff with tablet computers by 2016.
The plan will provide the schools with $1.6 million in funding for next year and was approved by the school board, even though two-thirds of its current members will not return to their positions after December, according to the news provider's Beverly Bradford.
Assistant instruction superintendent Sharon Ackerman noted that technology pilot programs are ongoing at Heritage High School and the Academy of Science at Dominion High School.
"We have teachers who have implemented more digital content but on shared computers rather than one to one devices," Ackerman said, according to the news provider. "The year will allow us to conduct a couple of smaller pilots."
Classroom technology now includes a range of useful devices. For example, school officials looking to tap into their students' potential can use a document camera, interactive whiteboard or HDMI projector to broaden their curriculum.
Bradford also reported that the school board voted to provide families with a $250 tax credit for those who purchase technology devices for their children.
