Ten schools in the Redland Unified School District of California recently received grants totaling up to $200,000 to invest in new technology and other initiatives to enhance the educational experience.
One grant recipient, Clement Middle School, will use its portion of the funding to purchase a new Orion Star Shoot All Sky Camera, which will allow students to study stars and document meteor patterns, according to a recent report from the Redlands Daily Facts.
"We can record images from horizon to horizon and look at how the sky works," Mike Arthur, who led the grant proposal, told the news provider. "When you look at the stars, do stars stay in one place? Do they move? When you look at the sun, does it rise in the same place over the course of a year? Does it set in the same place?"
Many schools around the country are using technology to introduce new learning methods for students. For example, implementing a media tablet, an interactive whiteboard or an HDMI projector can offer new resources to students that cater to their individual learning styles.
According to the Redlands Daily Facts, Clement Middle School received three grants totaling nearly $5,000. Other schools in the district will use grant money for new technology, library programs and other projects.
