Six school districts in Arizona will vote for potential budget overrides on November 8, according to a recent Tuscon Citizen report.
The news provider's Mark Evans indicated the state's schools have been ravaged by budget cuts reaching $150 million this fiscal year. Evans added that even residents in Sunnyside, which has struggled in recent years, are encouraged to pass the bill to receive additional funding.
"Sunnyside desperately needs the money," said Evans. "It’s one of the poorest school districts in the county with about four out of five students qualifying for the federal free or reduced lunch meal program for low and moderate income students."
The school district hopes to receive $88 million from a bond to improve its facilities, purchase new buses and adopt new technology, Evans reported.
If Sunnyside receives the funding, school officials may consider purchasing cutting-edge classroom technology, such as a tablet computer, interactive whiteboard or
DLP projector, to upgrade its tech infrastructure.
Evans added that although some have been critical of Sunnyside officials for not spending their funds effectively, the district desperately needs the influx of money.
