After receiving nearly $6 million in grants from the Department of Defense, students in the Muscogee County School District in Georgia are using advanced technology to broaden their educational skills, according to a recent WRBL report.
Several Muscogee County school officials recently spoke at a news conference held at the Space Science Center in Columbus, Georgia, regarding the use of new classroom technology.
"Education has changed," said school district teacher Tina Cross, according to WRBL. "We have to teach the students the way they learn and this is allowing us to do that. The primary focus of the grant was to increase military student achievement, but the DOD had the foresight to see that all students could benefit as well."
Educators hoping to use technology to strike greater interest in their students can use a tablet computer, document camera or
DLP projector, among other devices, to open new educational opportunities.
According to the WRBL report, the funds have helped students create a free video podcast and connect military students with their parents. Also, teachers in the 32 schools that received the grants have partnered with Columbus State University for training to fully utilize the advanced technology.
