A national-quality conference with a local feel and convenience, the second annual Sioux City Community District Technology Conference is slated to take place in the coming weeks in Sioux City, Iowa, according to NBC affiliate KMEG 14. The full-day conference will feature a number of lectures, talks and exhibitions that will introduce teachers to new and emerging technology and integration methods, while shoring up skills and practices with established classroom technology.
Technology in the classroom, like an interactive whiteboard, document camera or
DLP projector, connects students to a network that expands the classroom beyond its traditional, natural borders. Many IT coordinators in schools say that while new technology is full of opportunities for students and teachers alike, properly implementing it in the classroom requires a firm understanding of how it works, including its strengths and weaknesses.
"The tools don't make the effort. It's really the people. And we need to invest in our teachers," Neil Schroeder, director of technology for Sioux City schools, told the source. "That's kind of what this day is all about is making sure our people understand what they're doing, the teachers have, again, not just the tool but the training and the level of comfort to really make good use of it."
