With more college students and recent graduates turning to virtual resumes and creative and professional portfolios, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University recently launched a new scholarly publication dedicated to ePortfolio technology, according to the Collegiate Times.
The publication , called the International Journal of ePortfolio, will provide students with a scholarly resource on ePortfolio news and information for college students at every level.
An educational technology device, like a document camera, interactive whiteboard or HDMI projector, can have a significant impact on a classroom, as technology is changing the way students learn and businesses operate. Where once a comprehensive hard copy portfolio may have secured a job for a recent graduate, ePortfolios can now expand across all forms of digital media, and are used in a variety of settings, including job interviews as well as graduate school application processes.
Eddie Watson, the associate director for the Center of Instructional Development and Education Research at Virginia Tech, told the source that the Journal hopes to connect with employers as well as job seekers, introducing them to the benefits of ePortfolios if they have not begun accepting them yet.
"A lot of it is employer training," Watson told the source. "[Employers] are not necessarily aware what an ePortfolio is or that it is an option of something that they can look at."
