Supriya Jindal, the wife of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, recently visited the Bonne Ecole Elementary School, which received four new interactive whiteboards, a gift from Mrs. Jindal's Foundation for Louisiana's Children and Chevron. The joint charitable effort has donated and installed 200 interactive whiteboards across Louisiana to date. The gift also includes free installation and training for teachers, according to the St. Tammany News.
Classroom technology tools, like an interactive whiteboard, document camera or
DLP projector, can engage students in lessons that may be one-dimensional in a traditional teaching environment. Today, students use technology in virtually every facet of their lives, and access to technology in the classroom makes school a more inviting place, especially for young students.
In her address to faculty, Jindal noted that perspective on classroom technology indicates quantitative progress in schools at the forefront of the digital age.
"Interactive whiteboards are something we are beginning to see transform education across the country," she said, according to the source. "A study recently released shows a 17 to 19 percent gain in academic achievement in classrooms with the system versus classrooms without."
Officials from the Bonne Ecole school, which already featured 30 interactive whiteboards in classrooms before the donation, were happy to work toward making the availability of technology consistent between classrooms and grade levels.
