Classroom technology initiatives across the country in traditional primary, secondary and post-secondary institutions have gained a significant amount of attention recently, and the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in technical and niche educational programs is gaining steam as well.
According to the East Valley Tribune, students of the East Valley Institute of Technology, a technical high school in Mesa, Arizona, are getting real-world aviation industry experience in a classroom designed to look like a modern air traffic control tower. The classroom, located at EVIT's new East Campus at Arizona State University, overlooks the Phoeonix-Mesa Gateway Airport in a facility that also houses new health sciences labs and other classrooms.
Access to classroom technology, like an interactive whiteboard, document camera or
DLP projector, gives students opportunities to learn dynamically, through multimedia presentations. For technical students especially, access to technology connects them directly to the types of technology they will use professionally, sometimes immediately following graduation.
For engineers, for instance, this means using state-of-the-art laptops, tablet computers and computer-aided design programs. The new EVIT building itself features some of the most advanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems available, providing students focusing on HVAC installation, repair and maintenance access to a working system.
