Students at Utah elementary school walk for technology
September 16, 2011

Students at Utah elementary school walk for technology Students at Fiddler's Canyon Elementary School in Cedar City, Utah, recently held a walk-a-thon to earn money for classroom technology, according to the Utah Spectrum. The students took short, intermittent breaks during their school day to walk around a track after obtaining local pledges. The money raised will be used to purchase interactive whiteboards.

Access to classroom technology, like an interactive whiteboard, a tablet computer or an HDMI projector, gives students and teachers alike significant advantages. With an interactive whiteboard, for example, teachers can connect lesson plans to the internet, accessing a wealth of information and multimedia instruction tools.

In 2010, the school raised more than $13,000 to pay for classroom projectors and computers. While teachers noted that raising that much again this year would be a challenge, they are hopeful and proud of their students. The interactive whiteboards that the school hopes to purchase each costs about $4,000, according to the source.

"I'm appreciative of the support so we can enhance technology at our school," Kelly Springer, who organized the walk, told the source. "It's not easy, but our students are worth the investment."
