To help equip the new South Bend Tech High School in Indiana, 1st Source Bank recently announced it will provide the institution with up to $200,000 in a challenge grant.
Under the pledge, the bank will provide the new high schools with $1 for every $2 donated by community members until November 30, which could potentially raise the total to $600,000.
According to principal John Kennedy, the funds from the challenge grant will be distributed for technology equipment and furniture.
With the future funds, school officials may want to purchase technology that can help spark excitement for its students. For example, interactive whiteboards, classroom projectors and laptops offer advanced ways of learning which can augment or replace traditional methods.
The South Bend Tech High School currently has 102 freshmen enrolled for classes and, according to principal Kennedy, enrollment is full. Also, five teachers were in place for the August 25 opening.
The plan is to add a class of 100 freshmen each year until the institution is a four-year school.
