According to the Altavista Journal, a $20,000 grant from J.T. Minnie Maude Charitable Trust was recently awarded to Chatham, Virginia's Carlisle School. The grant is designed to improve the school's technological capability in the classroom, improving student's technological acumen.
The school plans to purchase 40 Apple iPads, and Head of School Simon Owen-Williams says that the grant will help the school work toward its goal of supplying a computer to every student. The school plans on integrating technology like web conferencing to broaden the reach of in-class discussions.
Other advanced classroom technologies like HDMI projectors engage students clearly and as a unit, allowing teachers to use a range of communicative tools to add depth to their lesson plans while maintaining the proven classroom dynamic.
"We realize that today's student learners are not going to be powered down, so the critical question emerges as how to effectively utilize the technology in an ethical and positive manner so that student learning is enhanced in the classroom," Owen-Williams told the news source.
While Owen-Williams stressed the importance of learning in a traditional classroom environment, he noted the distinct advantage that familiarity with advanced technology gives students as they advance in their academic and professional lives.
