South Carolina school districts recently received $1.3M in federal grants to upgrade classroom technology. The South Carolina Department of Education's Office of eLearning recently announced that seven school districts have received a total of $1.3 million in federal grants to upgrade their technology, according to reports.

The districts - Bamberg 1, Colleton County, Dillon 3, Dillon 4, Horry County, Lexington 2 and Marion 7 - will each receive between $120,000 and $240,000 as part of the Enhancing Education Through Technology program.

The E2TE program promotes the use of new equipment to help students become literate in new applications by the end of eighth grade. School officials throughout the districts may want to use the funds they have received to purchase laptops, tablets, interactive whiteboards and DLP projectors to upgrade their classrooms.

"With the ever-growing technology requirements of the modern workplace, educators say is essential that students leave school with a high degree of technical literacy," said a Count On News 2 report.

According to the state agency, the districts selected for the grant were among more than 40 applicants vying for the funds.
