Massachusetts governor endorses teen education

Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick recently spoke to teens about the importance of education.Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick recently spoke to nearly 300 teenagers at the 2011 National Urban League's Youth Leadership Summit at Northeastern University's Matthews Arena and stressed the importance of education, according to a press release from Northeastern University.

Patrick told the teens at the even that education is "the single most high-impact investment government can make for a stronger society."

Northeastern University offers a cooperative program that combines classroom studies and full-time employment opportunities,which Patrick called "the best deal in America," said the press release.

"We are about trying to leave a better Commonwealth than we found," Patrick said. "That’s what a community is about - seeing in our state our collective best interests and our collective best tomorrows."

Schools throughout the state may consider high-end technology, including classroom projectors, interactive whiteboards, laptops and desktops to improve the educational process further for teens.

Those in attendance also participated in Northeastern's University Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math program to promote joint research and boost economic development in the state. According to the Northeastern press release, Richard Harris, Northeastern’s director of the multicultural engineering program, said attendees represent the future of education through the STEM program.
