Adult education results in GEDs, job skillsFor many adults without a diploma, adult education centers and programs may be a boon, reported the Mansfield News Journal. Accordingly, one such program in Ohio recently expanded its effort in helping adults obtain general and advanced degrees.

Some students said the center and its educators helped them turn their lives around, thereby displaying the need for the public education service.

"I got into trouble," said Matthew Maguire, a 24-year old student with the Mansfield City Schools' Adult and Community Education program. However, through his interactions with officials and staff, he was able to once again get on the right track.

"I was able to complete my GED within months because the staff here is very helpful," he said. "They take the time to work with you one on one."

According to the media organization, the program is not funded by the school district, but rather through state and federal grants. Therefore, program officials will have to petition with these governing bodies for additional funding to purchase new education technology devices, such as an e-reader, a computer program of a DLP projector, all of which may aid adult learning.

"Our goal is to help everyone progress," program director Dee Bell told the the Mansfield New Journal.
