Hartford Foundation for Public Giving recently donated $171,500 to the Avon Free Public Library, reported the Avon News. The facility, situated in northwest Connecticut, was able to meet its original funding goal of $1 million thanks to the latest donation.
"We are extremely grateful to the Hartford Foundation for this award, as it will allow the library staff to provide the community's young adults with activities and programs to support healthy and positive development during the teenage years," Mary Suter, president of the Avon Library Board of Directors, told the local news source.
The library expansion project included a two-story addition to its old facilities, as well as new technology for its young adult section in the form of radio broadcasting devices, stated the media organization. Because younger patrons are enamored by these technological wonders, it may be prudent for librarians to place additional educational technology, such as an interactive whiteboard, a new laptop or a
DLP projector, in the section.
The new center will see more than enough use to justify the new improvements. According to the Avon News, more than half of the town's residents possess library cards, and the center itself sees 200,000 visitors annually.
