Among the latest devices to hit the educational technology market are interactive whiteboards. Recently, Schlarman Academy grade school in Danville, Illinois, bought 14 of the new tools, stated the News Gazette.
The school's booster club delivered most of the funding for the technology purchases, which totaled $32,000, reported the news provider. However, teachers with Schlarman Academy believe the expenses were well worth it, as the new devices have the potential to impact student learning.
"With the Promethean boards, we expect a high level of student engagement because they will become involved in all subjects in a variety of ways," assistant principal Mary Shepherd told the media organization. "Students may work in groups or as individuals with this new and exciting technology."
One of the advantages of interactive whiteboards is that the devices can be used in conjunction with additional educational technology, such as a videoconferencing solution, a internet-based computer program or a classroom projector, allowing teachers to use multiple displays at once without creating any image overlays.
"With the Promethean boards, learning will be fun and collaborative," said Shepherd.
