New Jersey's Lakewood School District was recently informed that it will soon receive a School Improvement grant worth about $6 million over a three-year period.
The federal grant is going to be put towards Lakewood High School's ultimate goal of improving its graduation rate, which stood at 37.6 percent for the 2009-2010 school year, according to the Asbury Park Press.
“When a school ... has graduation rates below 60 percent over a number of years, something dramatic needs to be done,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, in a statement made in April.
A good portion of the money is going to be put towards improving the technology in the high school's classrooms, according to the news source. Money from the grant will also contribute to educational tools for students and professional development programs for teachers.
There are a number of different options for classroom technology that can be used to improve the learning experience. A classroom projector is a great way to give students a visual aid to help learn. Educators can also use projectors to establish virtual whiteboards as well as play videos across an entire wall of a classroom, instead of displaying them on a small screen.
