Students participating in the Wisconsin Rapids School District's summer school program will reveal their new technology skills to audiences at the upcoming Betty Boop Festival, reported the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune. During the event, students will display 30-second animated clips they made during the three-week summer initiative.
The program, which largely focuses on technological learning, was designed to give students a new appreciation for the technology of the modern era.
"I think they didn't realize how long it takes to make a 30-second film," teacher Rochelle Grossbier told the media provider.
Grossbier recently petitioned the state to provide grant money for the program, which is called Animation-ish Education. Furthermore, she and other like-minded teachers may apply for additional grants to obtain the latest educational technology, such as a high-tech laptop, a 3D computer program and a classroom projector.
The program has been an overwhelming success, with many students claiming they want to pursue computer learning beyond the classroom.
"Some of the kids liked (the class) so much, they've asked for (the computer program as gifts) for their birthday and Christmas," Grossbier told the media organization.
