U.S. Secretary of State develops educational program for Muslim girls
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently announced the formation of an education program intended to serve Muslim girls. The initiative, dubbed
TechGirls, will teach students about science, technology, engineering and math.
Recently, the
U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs donated $1 million to the Institute of International Education to get the program up and running, reported
UPI.com. Girls from the Middle East and other areas of the world will be flown to the United States for a month to participate in an intensive, STEM-centered program.
Participants of the
TechGirls initiative will be involved in various educational activities and, because of the program's STEM focus, may be exposed to advanced technology. Therefore, officials with the program may want to develop learning activities that utilize such technologies as an interactive whiteboard, a high-tech computer or a
DLP projector, to impart technological knowledge on the girls.
Clinton claimed
TechGirls, while primarily focused on helping Muslim girls learn about technology, can also serve as a beacon of female empowerment.
"Being a woman in any field is not always easy, but there are so many opportunities in technology that we just have to forge ahead," she said in a recent address.
