IT firm D-Link recently announced the
Nederlands Independent School District will receive a technology grant intended to reduce after-hours vandalism and protect students.
The school district will be the recipient of the D-Link Texas Computer Education Association IP Surveillance Technology Grant. The money will allow the district to install security cameras around schools, as well as create a video-recording system and network switches, stated the surveillance company.
The initiative may make the students feel safer at school, though technology in education can go beyond video monitoring. Teachers nationwide are encouraged to try out educational technology devices, such as an e-reader, an interactive whiteboard or a
DLP projector, and assess the potential of these machines to assist student learning.
While is does not directly impact the classroom experience, the grant addresses a crucial problem in the school district.
"
Nederland ISD strives to provide its students and faculty with technology advantages that will enrich students' learning experiences while enhancing safety," said Cindy Laird, the technology director for the school district. "Due to budget constraints, we have not been able to put a proper security system in place, and we've desperately needed it."
