The West Branch School district is the latest in a growing number of recipients announced by Ohio's eTech grant program, reported Salem News Net.
The funding is intended to empower teacher training initiatives for underserved school systems. According to the news source, elementary and middle school teachers in Damascus, Ohio, will be paired with participating local colleges and will be instructed on how to use the latest in educational technology. Furthermore, some of the grant money will be used to provide schools with iPad tablets.
The grant given to the two schools totaled $40,000, stated the media outlet. If teachers find the iPad initiative a success, they may consider making additional educational technology purchases, such as a personal computer, an e-reader or a
DLP projector.
The grant money was well-received by teachers in the school district.
"We have to move forward and offer kids the latest and greatest to help prepare them to compete in a technology rich world without spending district funds," Damascus principal Matthew Bowen told Salem News Net.
