Students try out new computer gameThe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently gave Imagine Education, an educational group in Utah, $500,000, reported the Utah Pulse. The grant money will be used by 19 learning programs to assess the educational merits computer game of Ko's Journey.

Ko's Journey is "a first-of-its-kind, story-based, educational online math game," claimed the news source. The grant money to test its academic viability is part of the Next Generation Learning Challenges initiative set up by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which recently awarded a total of $7 million to education projects across the country.

The media outlet labeled Ko's Journey as the "Oregon Trail of Math Games," due to its focus on math and reading topics, as well as the fact that 2,500 organizations currently use the software program. Accordingly, teachers who find the game suitable for their classroom initiatives may want to pair it with other educational technology, such as a high-tech computer, a tablet or a classroom projector.

Other schools across the country are using grant money provided by the Next Generation learning Challenges initiative to improve education, reported Mind Shift. The Louisiana Department of Education intends to use the funding to expand its virtual algebra program.
