According to the Las-Cruces Sun News, New Mexico State University students will soon have access to thelatest in educational technology.
The university recently announced it will purchase cloud-based email capabilities for its student body, reported the news source. The cloud, which is the storage of data and IT applications on the internet, is labeled by many in the computer industry as the next big thing. All students will be given 25 gigabytes of cloud-based storage.
Professors may want to take advantage of their students' new cloud capabilities by pairing the technology with other educational devices. The platform can hold massive amounts of data without taking up physical space on memory drives. Therefore, teachers with the university may pair the cloud with a statistical program, an automatically updating STEM application or a classroom projector, to display pertinent data delivered by the system.
Supporters of the initiative say the cloud will not only make more information available to students, it will also promote collaboration.
"They can log on, two or three of them can all log on to the same shared space and can make updates to that same PowerPoint," Shaun Cooper, NMSU vice president, told the media outlet.
