The Lemon Grove school district in San Diego, California, was recently awarded a state-funded grant to enhance its teacher training and classroom technology, reported the Lemon Grove Patch.
Using the $267,000 grant, the school district will purchase some of the latest educational technology devices as a means of linking student learning to the modern age. Accordingly, some of the funding will be used by school planners to purchase Promethean interactive whiteboards for fifth-grade classrooms.
"The kids are used to using technology at home on a regular basis, and they come to school and expect to use interactive technology," Sonny Magana, the head of global research for Promethean, told the Lemon Grove Patch. "If they don’t, then it’s very difficult to not only get kids engaged, but to keep them engaged."
While the interactive whiteboards may meet the needs of most teachers, those looking for additional educational technology to complement the devices may consider a 3D software program, a personal computer or an HDMI projector.
According to the media outlet, the interactive whiteboard manufacturer conducted research on the device's effectiveness, and found student attentiveness rose 16 percent when educational technology was deployed in the classroom.
