Next Generation Learning Challenges program, a subsidiary of the Gates Foundation, is designed to prepare students for college, reported Mind Shift. Recently, the foundation announced the recipients of its latest round of educational grants.
The funding doled out by NGLC will total $7 million and is intended to serve both public and private education institutions, stated the media outlet. Most of the programs served by the grants focus on fostering student proficiency in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, all of which are topics educators claim pupils must learn in order to be ready for university-level education.
The Louisiana Department of Education, one of grant recipients, intends to use the money to expand its virtual algebra program, claimed the news source. Furthermore, other organizations may use the funds to purchase educational technology for schoolteachers, such as a 3D computer program, an interactive whiteboard or a classroom projector.
According to NGLC's website, its education empowerment program serves a crucial need in America today, as more jobs in the future will require a college degree. In 2018, the foundation estimates that 63 percent of careers in the United States will require some form of post-secondary education.
