After summer vacation, returning students to Weston Middle School in Weston, Oregon, will find iPads in their classrooms, reported the Union Bulletin.
A grant from the Oregon Department of Education and the 21st Century Technology-Rich Learning and Teaching subgrant program provided the school with $210,000, stated the news source. The additional funds will be used to buy 150 iPads for the middle school, which will be used by students and teachers alike.
According to the media organization, educators hope the new education technology will increase the number of students meeting the state's benchmark writing standards by upward of 10 percent per year. Additionally, teachers looking for other ways to empower writing among students may consider buying an interactive whiteboard, a typing tutorial computer program or a
DLP projector.
The Union Bulletin claimed some of the iPads will be reserved for professional development purposes. According to the Lakewood Observer, a recent technology grant in Ohio will also train teachers through mobile computing devices, such as iPod Touches and personal computers, both of which have been proven to make their users more tech-savvy.
