College-bound seniors helped by VerizonAccording to TMCnet, Verizon recently donated $5,000 in scholarships to three college-bound students in Texas, all of whom were the children of company employees.

The telecommunications provider feels it is necessary to invest in education, as college graduates comprise the majority of the technical workforce, reported the news source.

"Education is a key issue for Verizon and for our communities,” said Carl Erhart, president of Verizon's central region. "As a technology company, we know the value of education and are proud to support our future leaders through this scholarship program."

The scholarships are renewable for three years, stated the media outlet. Additionally, there are no purchasing restrictions placed on the donated funds. In preparation for college, the students may consider buying educational technology devices, such as a laptop computer, an e-reader or a DLP projector.

The Verizon Foundation recently supported other educational initiatives, including Sweet Briar college in Virginia, which received $20, 000 from the organization, reported the News Advance.
