In an effort to improve state test scores and overall learning for students, three high schools in Charleston, South Carolina, will get iPads delivered to them through a federal grant, reported the Post and Courier.
The educational technology will be introduced to classrooms in Burke, Stall and St. Johns high schools sometime during the next academic year, according to the news source. Funds bestowed by an $18.7 million federal school improvement grant will be used to purchase the new devices.
Educators hope the technology will help poorly performing students get back on track. Teachers may soon find classroom attentiveness increased by the introduction of technology and may consider obtaining additional devices through grant money, such as an e-reader, an interactive whiteboard or a classroom projector.
The media outlet stated that $1 million of the federal improvement grant will be devoted solely to the purchase of 2,100 iPads to be shared among the three schools. Furthermore, state legislators have now mandated students who don't achieve passing grades may have to complete an additional three weeks of school at the end of the year.
