Due to the sheer number of students using mobile devices, educators at the Manitou Springs Elementary School in Manitou Springs, Colorado, have decided to make the iPad 2 a formal part of the learning environment, reported the Denver Post.
Recently, the school announced plans to purchase 600 of these mobile devices, which teachers believe will help them connect to their tech-savvy pupils. Furthermore, the school district has allotted funding for educators to purchase up to $100-worth of applications at the Apple iTunes store.
The education technology initiative comes after the school routinely experienced internet delays due to the number of mobile devices on campus. Rather than disallow their students from bringing in their iPads, teachers have decided to embrace the tablets as a potential new medium through which they can teach their pupils, according to the media organization.
Experts say that education technology improves student attentiveness to classroom learning. Teachers who see results with the iPads may consider buying other digital devices, such as an e-reader, a 3D software program or a
DLP projector.
The effort by Manitou Springs teachers, according to some, is simply keeping up with the times.
"Teachers were begging for technology, students were already connected - so it was just a matter of how we capitalized on that," technology teacher Lisette Casey told the Denver Post.
