Chevron recently gave schools in the South Bay area of Los Angeles additional funds for technology purchases, reported TMCnet. The grants will be used to enhance student learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.
A total of $2 million will be given to schools throughout the region, which, the news source claimed, represents an ongoing initiative by Chevron to support local education. The company, which has vested interest in science-related fields, realizes the importance of STEM-centered learning.
"Education is the cornerstone of our state's competitiveness," said Frank Semancik, general manager of the company’s El Segundo Refinery. "Supporting STEM is a key Chevron value, and these funds are truly an investment in preparing the next generation workforce for increasingly technical careers."
According to the media outlet, one of the program’s beneficiaries will use the grants to help it meet national quality standards for math and science education. Teachers looking to make these concepts more clear to their students may consider making technology purchases, such as a graphing calculator tutorial program, a high-tech computer or a classroom projector.
TCMnet reported that 18 education organizations in southern California will receive the grants.
