As technology becomes a mainstay in classrooms throughout the United States, it is becoming clear to teachers that the devices are fundamentally changing the way society views education, reported the New Jersey Spotlight.
In the past, technology education was intended to prepare students for careers in advanced fields. Now, it seems as if the emphasis has shifted to educators looking for ways in which technology integration empowers the learning process, stated the news source. This movement is part of a grander plan by the federal government, which is calling for teachers to incorporate technological devices students would find in their everyday lives into lesson plans.
The overarching thought is that familiar technologies will aid student learning, claimed the media organization. Teachers who believe this to be true may consider asking for state and federal funds to purchase new technologies for their classrooms, such as an interactive whiteboard, a 3D computer program or an HDMI projector.
In an effort to enact this change, the federal government is calling for increased technology to be made available to all students nationwide.
"Only with 24/7 access to the internet via devices and technology-based software and resources can we achieve the kind of engagement," said a report by the U.S. Department of Education.
