The Aurora Area Community Foundation recently announced that it has passed the $1 million donation mark.
The foundation, which has been in existence for the past 5 years, has been a benefactor of community improvement projects and local education initiatives in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The organization recently planted trees at a local church and will award a number of scholarships to promising young students attending high school in Lawrence County.
The scholarships may economically empower students with limited resources to further their education. Furthermore, the funding may aid students looking to transition to university-level learning. College-bound students lucky enough to receive the grants may consider buying a new personal computer, an e-reader or a PowerPoint projector.
The donation that breached the $1 million ceiling was bestowed posthumously by Bill Jones of Marionville, Missouri, reported the foundation. Additionally, the empowered education initiative may be able to help more local schools secure critical technology resources. Recently, the organization awarded the Aurora High School Industrial Technology department a $19,000 grant for its solar panel program.
