Cateret County Public Schools in North Carolina recently received a $25,000 grant from the Ribbon of Hope Foundation, reported the Jacksonville Daily News.
The additional funds will be used to develop summer programs for at-risk students, according to the news source. The main focus of these extended learning initiatives will be scientific discovery, as a nearby marine sciences center plans to participate in the academic program. Students who choose this summertime option will be allowed to partake in hands-on activities relating to aquatic biology.
The other option for participating students is to attend a day camp called Camp Invention. Here, students will undertake scientific learning and create new mechanical devices, stated the media outlet. Camp organizers looking to guide students toward further scientific innovation may want to use the grant money to buy a robotics kit, a high-tech tablet or a
DLP projector.
The students involved in the program may be economically disadvantaged or struggling in school. According to the Marion Star, the high school in Marion, Ohio, recently received funding for its technology initiative intended to help incoming freshmen who may have struggled in junior high.
